At 21, Dulce Maria Gonzalez is more than a talented singer, but also a songwriter and pianist. She embodies such talented singer/songwriters/pianist such as;Carol King,Roberta Flack and Joni Mitchell.

Dulce has the voice of King, classically trained pianist such as Flack and the heart and soul of Mitchell. She’s defiantly a talent that is a rare find in today’s music. That is not to say that she can’t fit in because I think of talented women such as Alicia Keys and Corinne Bailey Rae. Now add Dulce Maria Gonzalez to that list. She is to be added to the list of not only talented beautiful women but the list of“my own sound”. After hearing just a few songs you would be able to pick out her music.

She combines the soul of R&B,the piano licks of Jazz and Latin beats of her heart. To feel empowered listen to“We Need A Woman”A song in support of Hillary Clinton for President. Even if you don’t agree with her choice of political candidate you will enjoy and agree with the song;sometimes we do“Need A Woman”If you want to groove check out“Snap Out of It”. On that song you will hear those sweet Jazz licks on the piano.

Jazz Diva at the age of 20? Well not yet but soon!A booming voice, personality and looks to match,Jessica Johnson is definitely someone you should look out for. And if you’re in the
California area, you should check out her live shows and witness a star being born.

Jessica has a voice that will make you say,“She sounds like someone but it’s something different about her”,I know because I said the same thing. Soon as I heard her voice I immediately search my music collection(thousands of songs). Well the truth is,that she doesn’t sound like anyone. She has her own sound and it is rare for you to say that when talking about someone that covers a lot of artists. Usually they sound like an imitation of what ever artist that previously did the song. Not in the case of Jessica, she puts her own spin to it;whether it’s“A Song for You”or my favorite her cover of John Legend's“Ordinary People”.

She invokes the passion of Della Reese but is more divine like Sarah Vaughn added with the good looks of Lena Horne.

Happy New Year everyone and with the New Year brings changes. This is the first time that www.afreshmusic.com has ever put spotlight on an entire record label. Daptone Records is feature because it’s dedication to true music. Soul, Funk, Gospel and Afro beat, they cover it all.

The house band is The Dap-Kings and you can hear them on 6 of the 11 tracks of Amy Winehouse hit album “Back to Black”.  The Dap-Kings have a sound that mixes Motown legendary house band “The Funk Brothers” with Stax legendary house band “Booker T and the MG’s”. That’s a funky soulful sound!

The core of their music is the Dap-Kings: Binky Griptite, Guitar, Emcee; David Guy, Trumpet; Bosco "Bass" Mann (AKA Gabriel Roth), Bass, Bandleader; Neal Sugarman, Tenor Saxophone; Tommy "TNT" Brenneck, Guitar; Homer "Funky-Foot" Steinweiss, Drums; Ian Hendrickson, Baritone and Tenor Saxophone. Daptone built their own studios in Brooklyn where they have recorded most of their releases. The unique quality of their sound is a product of the studio acoustics, recording only on analog tape -- no digital --, and mixing by Gabriel Roth.

Not only is their sound throw back but the music is even avalable on Vinyl. Do yourself and check them out at www.daptonerecords.com

After one listen to Lana McKissack you understand why she is no longer at Sony Records Japan. The reason being is because she is destined to be an American Pop star. Not the Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan type but a Mariah Carey or Celine Dion type Pop star. Blessed with a gentle yet powerful soprano voice, extremely good looks and a great personality she would easily burn the Pop charts.

Lana is a recent graduate of UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television class of 2005. Yes she also acts and from her youtube.com videos she seems to be pretty good!

If she ever decides that LA isn’t for her I would defiantly recommend Broadway! Future Tony award winner.

If you are a regular “Show Time at the Apollo” watcher the first time you saw Jazmine Sullivan, she was 11 years old in the 6th grade singing “Accept What God Allows”. Actually she wasn’t singing but she was SANGING as people say. Now fast-forward to the year of 2007 and she’s 20 years old with a voice that’s about 30. This isn’t another pretty face but it’s a pretty face with a booming beautiful voice. She riffs like gospel star Vanessa Bell Armstrong but never overdoing it and always leaving you wanting for more.

Only a few singers can cover songs that were already great and make them their own. Jazmine is one of those singers. Her jazzy (no pun intended) rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” left me with my mouth open. Now every time I hear that song it’s just not the same if Jazmine isn’t singing it. She’s just not a singer but also a writer. Check out “In Love with another Man”, this song is not R&B or “Neo Soul” but it is pure Soul! With a voice of a soul goddess and deep meaningful lyrics, she is bound to become a household name.

Philadelphia has given the world many great singers; Patti Labelle, The Ojays and Teddy Pendergrass just to name a few but Jazmine Sullivan is on her way to become the greatest of them all.

Airto
, This 22 year old from the Netherlands is proof that Soul knows no color, age or country. Airto is the hottest unsigned R&B artist out there. He’s a writer, singer and also plays the piano. He’s at his best when it’s just him and his piano. Check out songs on his myspace, the self penned “Home” and “True Friends”. His voice is smooth yet rough in all the right places, just like a true soul singer. He can convey what he is feeling with out screaming. Within time he could develop into the worlds next Marvin Gaye.

Airto on his sound “I'm floating in between Soul and R&B.
I love the true sound of music. No over polished studio voices, I want too hear the rawness. Nowadays it's all about pitch correcting and about the image an artist has... I never had any musical training so I luckily I still feel raw and unpolished.”

You defiantly hear the rawness in this young mans voice. From the smooth tenor that’s reminisces of Donny Hathaway to that high falsetto that will throw you back in time to Smokey Robinson. He has one of those rare voices that could make bad material sound good and yes it is one of those voices that you would be happy just to hear him sing the phone book. Big things are in store for Airto!
